1. Who we are
This website, takingcontrol.net, and our course platform at courses.takingcontrol.net are run by Taking Control Global Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 17306910. Our registered office is Sheldon House, Sheep Street, Shipston on Stour, Warwickshire, CV36 4AF, United Kingdom.
We’re the data controller for the personal information we collect about you. That means we decide how and why it’s used, and we’re responsible for looking after it. If you’ve got any questions about this policy or your information, email us at hello@takingcontrol.net.
2. What information we collect
We only collect what we actually need. Depending on how you use our site and services, that may include:
- Contact details, such as your name and email address, when you join our newsletter, send us a message or book a call.
- Order and account details, such as your name, email, billing and delivery address, and what you’ve bought, when you buy the book, a course, a subscription or the Mentorship Program.
- Payment information, which is handled directly by our payment processor. We never see or store your full card details.
- Information you choose to share with us, for example in a mentorship application, a message, a coaching call or a reply to one of our emails.
- Course activity, such as which lessons you’ve completed on our course platform, so we can track your progress and support you.
- Basic technical information, such as your IP address and browser type, which is processed automatically when you visit any website.
Our courses and coaching cover health, fitness and wellbeing. We don’t ask you for health information through this website. If you choose to share anything about your health with us, for example during the Mentorship Program, we’ll only use it to support you, we’ll treat it with extra care, and we’ll only hold it with your explicit consent.
3. How and why we use your information
UK data protection law requires us to have a lawful basis for each way we use your information. Here’s what we do and why:
- Sending you our newsletter and occasional updates about our books, courses and programmes. Lawful basis: your consent, which you give when you sign up. You can withdraw it at any time using the unsubscribe link in every email.
- Delivering what you’ve bought, including giving you access to courses, sending the book, running the Mentorship Program and taking payment. Lawful basis: performance of our contract with you.
- Replying to your messages and booking calls. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us, or taking steps at your request before entering into a contract.
- Keeping financial and tax records. Lawful basis: legal obligation.
- Keeping our website and platform secure and working properly. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in running a safe, reliable service.
We’ll never sell your information, and we won’t share it with anyone for their own marketing.
4. Who we share your information with
We use a small number of trusted service providers to run our business. They only process your information on our instructions and are required to keep it secure:
- HighLevel (LeadConnector), which powers our forms, email, course platform, bookings and customer records.
- Our payment processor, which handles card payments securely on our behalf.
- Our website host, which stores this website.
- Google Fonts, which supplies the typefaces on this website. Your browser connects to Google’s servers to load them, which shares your IP address with Google.
- Unsplash, which supplies some of the photographs on this website. Your browser loads these directly from Unsplash’s servers, which shares your IP address with them.
- Delivery companies, who need your name and address to deliver the book.
- Our professional advisers, such as our accountants, where needed.
We may also share information if the law requires it.
5. International transfers
Some of our providers, including HighLevel and Google, are based in the United States or process data there. Where your information is transferred outside the UK, we make sure it’s protected by appropriate safeguards, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, the Standard Contractual Clauses, or the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
6. How long we keep your information
- Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe, after which we keep only a record that you’ve opted out, so we don’t email you again.
- Customers: for as long as you have access to our courses or services, then for six years after your last purchase, to meet our legal and tax obligations.
- Enquiries and applications that don’t lead to a purchase: up to two years, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
7. Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct anything that’s wrong or incomplete;
- ask us to delete your information;
- ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to us using it;
- ask us to transfer it to you or to another organisation; and
- withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent.
There’s no charge for making a request, and we’ll respond within one month. To make a request, email hello@takingcontrol.net. We may need to confirm your identity first.
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, please talk to us first and we’ll do our best to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
8. Cookies
Cookies are small files that a website stores on your device. We keep cookies to a minimum and don’t use any advertising or tracking cookies on this website.
- Strictly necessary cookies. These keep the website working and secure, for example remembering that you’re logged in. They don’t need your consent.
- Form cookies. When you use one of our forms, our forms provider, HighLevel, may set cookies so the form works properly and your submission reaches us.
If we ever add analytics or marketing cookies, we’ll update this policy and ask for your consent before setting them. You can block or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings, although some parts of the site may not work properly if you do.
9. Links to other websites
Our website links to other sites, such as our course platform, our book page and social media. Once you leave this site, the other website’s own privacy policy applies, and we’re not responsible for how it handles your information.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated at the top.
